#0005 GOA - TALES FROM THE CHILL-OUT CAPITAL OF INDIA

Hello Again!!

Welcome back to another blog of travelling tales. I was confused this time for which subject to choose. In the end I don't know why I just choose India's Chill-Out Capital: GOA!!!

One thing I want to confess here that I have never been to Goa before, all the information I am passing here with you is just my research from the web. So please don't quote me on anything here, If you found any misinformation do let me know by email or in the comments. Phew.. My heart is now relieved. :P

When You heard the name, GOA!! What is the first thing you think ? Party ? Right? But Goa is not only about party and boozing with friends, You will find many family oriented places here as well as the BEACH!! How can you suggest a Beach as only Party ? You can play football, Volleyball and what not. Apparently what I am trying to prove here is that Goa is for everyone who loves to chill-out for few days.

Plan of Goa is one of the frequently planned destination which is also one of the frequently cancelled plan, especially for Indians. My own plans have been cancelled so many times. :D

Goa is the perfect mix of natural beauty, lively nightlife and tropical environment. Even though Goa is the smallest state of India, Goa is one of the most popular tourist destination of the country, thanks to its rich heritage, warm and friendly people, tropical climate, beaches & state of the art handicrafts. Tourist usually know Goa as North Goa and South Goa. Both are unique and beautiful in their own way; North Goa is usually preferred for nightlife, shopping and liveliness, wheres South Goa has exotic beaches, beautiful scenic rides with City's pure calmness. No matter where you decide to go in Goa, you just can't go wrong as you will choose to end up having a hell of a great life experience. However I am not going deep as for now.

As I researched, Do not leave Goa until you.

SEE:

  • Beaches:  Goa has 25 amazing range of beaches to offer from full party oriented beaches to full of peace and relax beaches. If you are into the water activities and tons of shacks, Beaches like Vegatore Beach, Calungute Beach, Baga Beach and Anjuna Beach which all are in North Goa are worth visiting. If you are in up for peace and relaxation, beaches like Palolem Beach. Colva Beach, Butterfly Beach, Beanulim Beach and Galgibaga Beach (famous as a nesting ground for Olive Ridley Turtles)which all are in South Goa are worth visiting.

  • Chapora Fort: This is yet another popular tourist destination and is especially for the people who are looking for evening chill out. Chapora Fort is very famous for its scene from the Bollywood film 'Dil Chahta Hai', fort is also known as Dil Chahta Hai fort among many Bollywood fans. This ancient fort offers splendid views of the beautiful Vagator Beach and overlooks the Arabian Sea from all angels. The fort is located on the top of a hillock with slops on all sides, and though according to many bloggers it is almost in ruins now. It doesn't stop visitor from standing where Bollywood stars once did!

  • Besilica De Bom Jesus: This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a church in Old Goa, extremely popular throughout the Roman Catholic World. One of the most important attractions here are the mortal remains of the missionary Saint Francis Xavier. The architecture from inside of this church is also breath-taking which you should not miss. This heritage site is also very popular photography spot in Goa. If you are in Goa and you do not have picture of this church then your journey of Goa is incomplete.

DO:

  • Water Sports Activity:  If you are in Goa and you are not opting for water activity then you are missing something in your trip to Goa, unless you are the victim of Water Phobia or having some personal problem with it. Goa has plenty to offer in water activities such as Sea Diving, Catamaran Sailing, Jet Skiing, Parasailing and windsurfing, Which you can find in North Goa.
  • Dolphin Spotting Cruise: Dolphin watching tours are a popular activity in various parts of the Mandovi River and are especially popular at Sinquerim Beach alongside Fort Agoda. In this fun activity, operators usually gather tourists in group of 4 or 6, who hop on to a boat and sail out about a couple of kilometres into the sea to watch the dolphins circling in action.
  • Casinos:  A visit to one of Goa's several casinos should be on your to-do lis as Gao has amazing avenues to gable on. The Casinos offers several games like slots, roulette, poker, flush baccarat and more along with live entertainment and some of them of unlimited food and drinks. I would suggest you at least visit ones in Casino for just relaxation as these casinos are usually sailing on the high seas which is kind a relaxing, even you are not into gambling. Most of the floating casinos are on the Mandovi River, Panjim. There are many famous casinos in Goa which is famous among tourist and local people such as Deltin Royale Casino, Deltin Jaqk, Casino Carnival, Casino Pride, Casino Palms, Casino Paradise, Chances Casino, Crown Casino, Dunes - The Casino, Casino Strike and many more. This list is contain both type of casinos: sailing and normal one. (Photo Courtesy: www.deltin.com)

EAT:
  • Vindaloo: Fiercely spicy gravy that literally is a hot favourite in Goan households, this preparation can be made using chicken, pork, mutton or prawns. The usage of vinegar and sugar adds a distinctive flavour to the gravy.
  • Crab Xec Xec: Yet another fiery preparation from Konkan kitchen, Crab Xec Xec is made by cooking crabs in thick gravy of tamarind, red chillies and coconut. It is best served with steamed or boiled rice, which is a staple in Goan households.
  • Bebinca: A popular Goan, East Indian and Mangalorean dessert, Bebinca is a pudding with 7 layes (or more!) made of flour, eggs, sugar, coconut milk and cardamom-nutmeg powder. It's a must buy for friends back home!
